The History of Maison Graff
Maison Graff was founded by Laurence Graff in London in 1960. Passionate about diamonds, fascinated by the emotional power of precious stones, and endowed with an entrepreneurial spirit, Laurence Graff worked on instinct from the very beginning.
The adventure began when he met a diamond dealer who sold him 33 diamonds for £60. Rather than creating 33 individual rings, Laurence Graff chose to create a single ring, entirely set with diamonds. The ring sold very quickly: this would become his recipe for immediate success. After testing his formula with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires, Laurence Graff founded Maison Graff and opened two boutiques in London.
As early as 1967, Laurence Graff traveled with his diamonds to make the brand known internationally. After opening a first boutique (outside the UK) in Monaco in 2000, other boutiques followed, bringing the current number of Graff boutiques worldwide to 50. Maison Graff soon received prestigious distinctions, including 4 Queen's Awards to Industry!
Maison Graff remains a family business today: it is Laurence's son, François, who represents the new generation of Graff.
Graff: Unique Precious Stones
Maison Graff stands out for stones of unique quality and unparalleled beauty. The first exceptional precious stone acquired by Graff was the "Star of Bombay," purchased in 1974, a diamond from the mines of the Kingdom of Golconda in India and cut in an emerald shape.
The Imperial Blue, acquired in 1984, is the world's largest Flawless blue diamond and one of the rarest blue diamonds. It weighs 39.31 carats and is cut in a pear shape, which further intensifies the blue of the diamond. Similarly, The Paragon, a 137.82-carat diamond acquired by Graff in 1990, is the largest D-color Flawless diamond; and the Empress Rose, a diamond acquired in 2001 weighing 70.39 carats, is the world's largest Internally Flawless pink diamond and one of the rarest in existence.
The latest acquisition by Maison Graff, the Graff Lesedi La Rona diamond (302.37 carats), is the largest diamond ever certified by the GIA and possessing both the highest degrees of color and clarity. It is also the largest emerald-cut diamond; it comes from the second-largest rough diamond ever discovered, in Botswana.
It is the work on these exceptional precious stones that defines the Graff style: Graff jewelry is recognized above all for its ability to showcase the most beautiful precious stones.
