Kashmir sapphire is renowned as the most beautiful sapphire in the world. These sapphires come from the mines of Kashmir, a tension zone between India and Pakistan. Opened in 1881, these mines were declared exhausted by the Maharaja of Kashmir in 1979 and are now officially closed. Some rumors suggest that deposits are still being exploited today. Besides being rare, Kashmir sapphire is a magnificent precious stone with its deep, intense blue tinted with violet.

Burmese sapphire is quite similar to Kashmir sapphire. It is extremely rare and therefore highly sought after (a good quality sapphire can cost several thousand euros per carat!).

As for Ceylon sapphire, originating from Sri Lanka, it is also increasingly rare due to the decline in sapphire production in that country, although it is one of the most well-known. Today, Ceylon sapphire accounts for more than half of the world's production. Most Ceylon sapphires are blue (a more or less deep lilac blue), but there are also orange sapphires with a hint of pink (known as "padparadscha" sapphires).

However, for a sapphire to be considered good quality, its color must be a deep, uniform, clear blue without treatment. Yet, untreated sapphires are increasingly rare since 90% of sapphires today are treated to intensify their color.
