The Countess of Castiglione

In 1893, Frédéric Boucheron settled at 26, Place Vendôme. At the time, this was the home of Countess Virginia de Castiglione, known as "The Divine," famous for having been the mistress of Napoleon III. Courtesan, spy, diplomat, and photographic model, she was renowned for her ball gowns. While Boucheron did not choose number 26 for this reason, but because it was the sunniest spot on Place Vendôme (which makes jewelry sparkle in the window), the Countess of Castiglione would become one of his first famous clients.

The Belle de Nuit necklace was created in 2008 (150th anniversary of Maison Boucheron) to pay homage to her. This black gold necklace features a pear-shaped sapphire, set with diamonds and rubies, and adorned with flower buds that open and close via a mechanism.

Elizabeth II of England

The brooch worn by Elizabeth II of England during her address on April 5, 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, is signed Boucheron. This magnificent jewel did not fail to attract all eyes: it is an Art Deco style double clip brooch, composed of oval, baguette, and round-cut diamonds, and aquamarines. The queen's uncle, the Duke of Kent, bought it in London from Maison Boucheron on July 31, 1937. Queen Elizabeth II later received it as a birthday gift for her 18th birthday, on April 21, 1944. This brooch, given to her by her parents, thus holds true sentimental value!

Lady Margaret Greville

In 1901, Boucheron created a diamond diadem for British philanthropist Lady Margaret Greville, a close friend of Queen Mary of England. This tiara was inherited by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother upon her death and thus entered the collection of jewels of the English crown. This magnificent tiara was first seen worn by the queen in 1921.

This is not the only Boucheron jewel commissioned by Lady Margaret Greville that would later be worn by the British royal family: notably, the necklace worn by Princess Elizabeth at her wedding to Philip Mountbatten in 1947, composed of 18 rubies and 100 carats of diamonds!

One of the most important commissions from Lady Margaret Greville, a regular Boucheron client, was an order for a tiara of 739 diamonds, 12 emeralds, and 180 rose-cut diamonds surrounding a 93.7-carat emerald. This tiara, commissioned in 1919, was crafted from several pieces that Lady Margaret Greville already owned. It was worn by Princess Eugenie at her wedding to Jack Brooksbank in 2018.

The Maharaja of Patiala

Louis Boucheron, Frédéric Boucheron's son, was fascinated by India; he even traveled there in person to present Maison Boucheron's collections in 1926-1927.
This fascination led to one of the Maison's largest commissions: in 1928, the Maharaja of Patiala asked Boucheron to create, from all the precious stones in his treasury (6 caskets filled with precious stones!), a parure consisting of 149 pieces made of thousands of diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.
In total, the Maharaja's treasure reached a value of 1.8 billion francs!
149 drawings were made to honor what would remain the most important commission of Maison Boucheron.

The Shah of Iran

In 1930, Louis Boucheron was appointed Guardian of the Treasure of the Shah of Iran.
Indeed, Riza Shah Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, asked him to appraise the Persian national treasure, which includes, among other things, the two largest pink diamonds in the world, without publicly revealing its value.
Louis Boucheron, then appointed official curator of the Shah of Iran's treasure (meaning he was the only one allowed to touch the jewels), kept the secret of the treasure's value until his death.
This collaboration did not end there: in 1960, the Tehran Museum was designed by Gérard Boucheron (Louis's son) and inaugurated in Tehran. In 1979, 20 years after Louis Boucheron's death, the Shah of Iran placed another order with the Maison: the wedding crown of Soraya Esfandiari, his future wife.

Edith Piaf

Edith Piaf was also one of Boucheron's famous clients, with her love for the Reflet watch.
This iconic watch, created in 1947, with interchangeable bracelets, became the singer's lucky charm after she wore it while singing her Hymne à l'amour for the first time, an instant success.
So much so that she bought 21 of them between 1949 and 1963!
She notably gave one to Marcel Cerdan, her legendary lover.
