The History of Van Cleef & Arpels

Van Cleef & Arpels was founded by Estelle Arpels (daughter of a precious stone dealer) and Alfred Van Cleef (son of a diamond merchant) in the late 1890s. From 1906, the jewelry house settled at 22 Place Vendôme. Since then, it has never ceased to impress with its craftsmanship, using patented techniques such as the Mystery Setting, and collections that are both luxurious and refined. Van Cleef & Arpels notably produced the engagement parure of Princess Grace of Monaco and the famous garter bracelet of Marlene Dietrich in Hitchcock's film The Grand Alibi. In 1937, Van Cleef & Arpels pioneered as the first French high jewelry house to establish itself in Japan. The Cosmos collection was created in 2014 and is inspired, like many Van Cleef & Arpels collections (Fleurette, Lotus…), by a flower.
