The history of Maison Chaumet

Maison Chaumet was founded in 1780 in Paris by Marie-Etienne Nitot. Official jeweler to Empress Joséphine, for whom he supplied tiaras and luxurious parures, Chaumet quickly became one of Europe's most renowned jewelers. From the end of the 18th century, it received prestigious commissions and expanded its circle of loyal clients.

From the second half of the 19th century, Maison Chaumet drew inspiration from the Italian Renaissance and decorative arts to create romantic jewelry. The Maison moved to Place Vendôme, into the Hôtel Baudard de Saint James, at the turn of the 20th century: it was also at this time that it took its definitive name, then directed by Joseph Chaumet. Still greatly inspired by nature, with motifs such as aigrettes, Chaumet jewelry became increasingly geometric and contrasting, in the Art Deco style popular in the 1920s, before becoming modern and avant-garde in the 1930s.

Since the beginning of its history, Maison Chaumet has distinguished itself with its tiaras, the favorite adornment of Empress Joséphine, which it endlessly reinterprets and reinvents. Since 1780, Maison Chaumet has created over 2,000 tiaras…

The excellence of Maison Chaumet

Maison Chaumet is above all about craftsmanship: for 240 years, the Maison's artisanal excellence has been passed down from generation to generation. The artisans of Maison Chaumet master the art of working with diamonds and precious stones, bringing them to life and giving them form. One of the most distinctive motifs of Maison Chaumet is the pear-shaped carved precious stone.

Maison Chaumet does not hesitate to use colored stones to create jewelry that suits all occasions and sentiments. But it also works with gold, in all its forms (inlaid, chased, engraved, enameled…) and combined with all metals, to create jewelry with unique reflections.

The Chaumet style

Since its inception, Maison Chaumet has drawn inspiration from nature, animals, and plants. Over the years, although Chaumet jewelry has modernized, the Maison has not abandoned its romantic style. Woodlands, fields, or gardens are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the Maison, with their plants (grasses, wheat sheaves, mistletoe, carnations, pansies, ivy, wildflowers…) and animals (aigrettes, bees…). The most sought-after Chaumet collections

During the appraisal, the collection to which your Chaumet jewel belongs matters as much as its metal or stones. Certain lines of the Maison benefit from sustained demand on the signed jewelry market.

Liens

An emblematic creation of Chaumet, iconic since 1977, the Liens collection is recognized by its intertwined links, symbolizing the bonds that unite us. Available in yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and platinum, with or without diamonds, it retains excellent resale value thanks to its timeless design and global recognition.

Joséphine

A tribute to Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, the Maison's muse, the Joséphine collection is distinguished by its diamond settings and high-purity colored stones. Representative of French high jewelry savoir-faire, it is particularly prized by collectors.

Bee My Love

A modern evocation of the Napoleonic bee, the Bee My Love collection features hexagonal motifs inspired by the honeycomb. Its contemporary design, blending tradition and modernity, appeals to a new generation of jewelry enthusiasts and supports demand on the second-hand market.

Jardins, Torsade, Insolence, Attrape-moi… si tu m'aimes

The Maison's other lines — Jardins, a celebration of lush nature; Torsade, a refined play of intertwined lines; Insolence, an audacious and contemporary expression; Attrape-moi… si tu m'aimes, a declaration of love crystallized into a jewel — are also subject to appraisal and purchase. Complete sets (ring, bracelet, necklace, earrings) and limited editions, often numbered and accompanied by specific certificates, benefit from additional valuation.
