The French Gemmological Laboratory offers several services to its clients. It can identify gems and diamonds, establish an authenticity report for these stones, and detect fake stones and imitations. It also produces analysis reports for diamonds, pearls, colored pearls and other gems, with grading based on the 4Cs as done by other international gemmological laboratories (GIA, HRD).

The LFG produces nearly 5,000 analysis reports per year. These reports are considered reliable worldwide for several reasons. First, the analysis of the diamond or gem is carried out by several gemmologists, who do not know the client's name (a number is assigned to each diamond at the start of the analysis) and do not know the analysis of the other gemmologists. This ensures the objectivity and impartiality of the analysis. In addition, the LFG, as the oldest gemmological laboratory in France, has an exceptional gem collection and state-of-the-art equipment: this allows it to produce fine, precise and detailed analyses.

The LFG diamond certification process has obtained two certifications: ISO 9001 certification and the ethical, social and environmental certification from the RJC (Responsible Jewellery Council).

Reliable and secure certificates

The LFG offers comprehensive analysis reports for your diamonds from 1 carat upwards. These analysis reports include not only the 4Cs (cut, color, clarity and carat weight of the diamond) based on the grading established by the American gemmological laboratory GIA, but also more. In the LFG analysis report, you will also find information such as the diamond type, its shape, its dimensions, and its fluorescence. A diagram of the diamond with its inclusions (plotting) and a proportion diagram are also included to complete the analysis report.

Below 1 carat, the LFG will provide an identification report for your diamond, with the same information as above, except for the inclusion diagram.

How is an analysis report established by the French Gemmological Laboratory?

The LFG certification process follows a precise protocol determined by an institutional charter based on the National Charter of Expertise. When the diamond arrives at the laboratory, it is first registered in the administrative department and weighed once for identification, before being assigned a number. The diamond is then transferred to the laboratory, where it is officially weighed before undergoing various advanced tests. It is photographed, scanned in 3D, observed under a microscope and photographed under a microscope. These various tests will identify it, determine if it is natural or synthetic, and provide a diamond grading to establish the analysis report. The diamond thus passes through the hands of several expert gemmologists to ensure the reliability of the analysis.
