Identification and characterization of gemstones: gemstones analyzed by GRS must be of high quality. GRS also determines the origin of gemstones from classic mining regions.
Detection of treatments and synthetic stones using state-of-the-art analytical instruments (spectrometers, lasers, detectors, microscopes…)
Color classification and color marking of gemstones. GRS's color terminology is renowned worldwide for its different and clearer approach for consumers.

GRS's work is published in specialized journals and its "Contributions to Gemmology" publications, and the laboratory also organizes seminars and professional events.

GRS Reports on Gemstones

GRS produces reports on gemstones containing the following information:

The report number, which consists of 10 to 11 digits
The date of analysis of the gemstone
A brief description of the stone or jewelry if it is a set stone
Identification of the stone. The gemstone name may be followed by three terms: natural, synthetic, or treated (for example: natural diamond, synthetic diamond, or treated diamond)
A color photograph of the stone
Weight (in carats) and dimensions (in millimeters), i.e., length, width, and height.
Shape and cut of the stone
Color
Comment: all observations made on the stone are noted in this section, e.g., the nature of the treatment if the stone has been treated
Origin opinion: if the origin of the stone can be determined, it is noted in this section
A unique QR code associated with the stone
The terms and conditions associated with the report.
