Diamond Buyback in Paris: Appraisal in Front of You, a Firm Offer
Looking to sell a diamond in Paris? Since 1985, our house has been buying diamonds from private individuals at 43 rue Beaubourg, in the 3rd arrondissement. A gemologist examines your stone in front of you, explains what gives it value, and makes you a firm offer. The appraisal is free and commits you to nothing: if the offer does not suit you, you leave with your diamond. Already received an offer elsewhere? The house is committed to doing better.
We are an independent appraisal office. We buy the stone for what it is—its weight, its color, its clarity, its cut—and not for the weight of the metal surrounding it.
Your diamond comes from an inheritance? See also our page on estate jewelry. Is it set on a signed piece (Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari…)? See our page on signed jewelry.
Before you visit
Diamonds we buy
One carat and above
Loose diamond or mounted on a ring, pendant, or earrings. It is the weight of the main stone that counts, not the total of a pavé. At 0.90 carat, a very fine stone is still acceptable.
Certified or not
A certificate from GIA, IGI, HRD, or the Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie facilitates the appraisal. Without a certificate, we establish the stone’s characteristics ourselves: many fine antique diamonds have never had one.
On a signed or antique piece
Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Boucheron, Chaumet…, or a fine antique piece (Art Deco, Belle Époque): then the object matters, not just the weight of the stones.
To save you a wasted trip
What we do not buy
Diamonds under one carat
Unless set in signed jewelry or a remarkable antique piece. We prefer to tell you before you cross Paris.
Synthetic, imitations, rough stones
Synthetic diamonds (called “lab-grown”), moissanites, zircons, and uncut stones: we only buy natural cut diamonds.
Complacent certificates
Diamonds presented with an EGL, AIG, GIE certificate or a jeweler’s “house certificate”: these documents often state two to three grades above reality, and the house does not buy on this basis.
Is your diamond one carat?
Many people don’t know, and that’s normal. Two simple ways to find out before you visit:
- Measure its diameter with a ruler: a round diamond (brilliant cut) of about 6.5 mm weighs roughly one carat; 5 mm, about half a carat; 4 mm, about a quarter carat.
- Photograph it next to a coin (a 1 euro coin measures 23.25 mm) and send us the photo on WhatsApp: we’ll give you an approximate weight, and we’ll tell you honestly if the trip is worth it.
If your diamond has a certificate, the weight is listed: it’s the “Carat Weight” line.
How the sale works
From first contact to payment
A photo before you come
Send a photo of the stone—and its certificate if you have one—on WhatsApp, or call 01 48 87 81 44. We’ll tell you right away if your diamond meets our criteria.
Appraisal, in front of you
At 43 rue Beaubourg, with or without appointment, Monday to Friday from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 6:30 pm. A gemologist examines the stone before your eyes—weight, color, clarity, cut, fluorescence—, verifies it is a natural diamond, and explains each criterion.
Firm offer and payment
If you accept the offer, payment is immediate, by bank transfer. An ID is required: it’s a legal obligation for any buyback. If you refuse, you leave with your diamond, free of charge.
Free & confidential appraisal
Have your piece appraised
Describe the piece in 3 steps: a state-certified gemologist will reply within 24 h and tell you if it matches what we are looking for. The price is then determined during the in-person appraisal, with the piece in hand — free of charge and without obligation.

Seeing a diamond the way we see it
This emerald-cut diamond was filmed in our office after appraisal. This is what a gemologist sees: the regularity of the facets, the clarity of the stone, the way light passes through it—elements that no photo truly captures.
- ◆ Each stone is examined in front of you, with a loupe and refractometer
- ◆ The observed characteristics determine value: color, clarity, cut, weight
- ◆ Free, no-obligation estimate, with or without certificate
What Determines the Buyback Price of a Diamond
The price of a diamond primarily depends on its four characteristics, the "4Cs": carat weight, color (from D, the whitest, to Z), clarity, and cut quality. Two stones of the same weight can have very different values based on these criteria. Fluorescence, proportions, and the condition of the stone (chips, nicks) also matter. To track prices, consult our 2026 diamond price index and our diamond pricing guide.
Why the Buyback Price Differs from the Retail Price
The price paid in a jewelry store includes the retailer's margin, design, brand, and VAT. The buyback price corresponds to the stone's value on the professional market. The difference can be surprising: it is best to be aware of it before the appraisal. Our role is to give you a fair price, explained criterion by criterion.
With or Without a Certificate
A certificate from a recognized laboratory describes the stone and facilitates the sale; it is a working basis, and we always inspect the stone itself. Without a certificate, we determine its characteristics during the appraisal. To learn more: selling a diamond without a certificate and buyback of GIA-certified diamonds.

Frequently Asked Questions
Selling a diamond: your questions
Do I need to make an appointment to sell a diamond?+
No. We welcome you with or without an appointment, Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. An appointment guarantees you a time slot without waiting; you can book it online at any time.
From what weight do you buy back a diamond?+
We are looking for diamonds of one carat and above (0.90 carat for a very beautiful stone). Below that, we will not have you travel, unless the diamond is set in a piece of jewelry signed by a major house or in a remarkable antique piece.
My diamond does not have a certificate: can you buy it back?+
Yes. We determine its characteristics ourselves during the appraisal. Many beautiful antique diamonds have never been certified.
Which certificates are accepted?+
Those from GIA, IGI, HRD, and the Laboratoire Français de Gemmologie. EGL, AIG, or GIE certificates, as well as "in-house certificates" from jewelers, are not recognized by the profession: the house does not buy on that basis.
How much is my diamond worth?+
It all depends on its weight, color, clarity, cut—and its nature, natural or synthetic. These criteria can only be assessed with the stone in hand: the firm price is set at the appraisal, in front of you, and each criterion is explained to you.
Can you appraise my diamond from a photo?+
We never give a price based on a photo: the color, clarity, and nature of a stone cannot be seen on a screen, even for a professional, and two stones identical in a photo may have no relation in value. A photo, along with the certificate if available, does allow us to tell you whether your diamond matches what we are looking for, and thus whether the trip is worthwhile.
Is the appraisal free? Does it obligate me to sell?+
Neither. The appraisal is free and without obligation, and it takes about twenty minutes. If the offer does not suit you, you leave with your diamond.
I do not have an invoice (gift, inheritance): is that a problem?+
No. Many diamonds are gifts or inheritances, without an invoice. Only a piece of identification is required, as for any buyback: it is a legal obligation. The certificate or the box, if you have them, are welcome.
How am I paid?+
If you accept our offer, payment is immediate, by bank transfer. A piece of identification is required for any buyback: it is a legal obligation.
Do you buy directly, or on consignment?+
Directly. We buy the stone ourselves, without consignment or commission: the offer is firm and, if you accept it, payment is immediate.
I have already received an offer elsewhere: can you do better?+
Yes. If a colleague has already made you an offer, the house commits to doing better. Show us the piece before deciding: the appraisal is free and without obligation, and you have nothing to lose.
I live far from Paris: how should I proceed?+
Start by sending us a photo and the certificate on WhatsApp: we will tell you whether your diamond matches what we are looking for, before any travel. Appraisals take place at 43 rue Beaubourg; for a significant ensemble in France, our expert may travel, never abroad.
Do you buy back synthetic diamonds?+
No: neither synthetic diamonds (so-called "lab-grown"), nor moissanites, nor zircons, nor rough stones. The appraisal also allows us to verify that your stone is indeed a natural diamond.
