Diamond investment companies apply margins of 30 to 60% on the market price. Your diamond is often worth less than the price paid, regardless of its quality.

Overvalued Certificates

Some certificates (CIBJO, SCAN) assign grades higher than reality. A diamond certified « E/VVS1 » by a commercial laboratory may be reassessed « G/VS2 » according to GIA standards.

Market Fluctuations

The diamond price fluctuates according to global supply and demand. Stones of 0.50 to 1 carat have held up better than very small stones, but the market has seen significant corrections.

Is my investment diamond worth what I paid?

In most cases, no. Investment companies apply significant margins (30 to 60%) and sometimes use certificates that overvalue the stone's characteristics. We give you the real value, based on international prices and GIA criteria.

What is the difference between a GIA certificate and a CIBJO certificate?

GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the global reference: its criteria are strict and recognized everywhere. CIBJO or SCAN certificates, used in the 80s-90s, apply different standards that tend to overvalue color and clarity. A diamond certified D/IF in CIBJO may be reassessed F/VS1 or less by GIA standards.

How long does the appraisal take?

The appraisal of an investment diamond generally takes 30 to 45 minutes. We analyze the stone under a loupe and microscope, verify the certificate, and present our offer shortly after. You walk away with payment the same day if you accept.

I have several investment diamonds to sell. Is that possible?

Absolutely. We purchase lots of investment diamonds, regardless of quantity. Each stone is appraised individually. For large lots, we can arrange a dedicated appointment at our Parisian salon or come to your home.

Is the original certificate necessary?

The certificate facilitates the appraisal but is not essential. Our master diamond setters evaluate the stone according to its actual characteristics, independently of any certificate. If the certificate overvalues the stone, our expertise prevails.
