Investment diamond, a safe haven
–> Better understanding the importance of a GIA certificateDiamond is a safe haven for successful investment. Indeed, because it is the hardest material on the Mohs scale, with a hardness of 7 to 7.5, it is very resistant to alteration. Its value over the years will therefore change very little, or at least, it will only increase as diamonds become rarer. Indeed, the diamond formation cycle is slower than the rate of mining: as time goes by, global diamond reserves are dwindling, and this precious stone becomes increasingly rare.
Moreover, diamond is in a way an international currency: it can be traded and sold worldwide. Another advantage of investment diamond is that, unlike real estate, it requires no management. Taxation is also advantageous, since in France, if you sell your diamond once its resale value reaches €5,000, taxes are low. Please note, investment diamonds are interesting if they represent no more than 15% to 30% of your investment portfolio. The number one rule of investing is not to put all your eggs in one basket: diversifying your investments is essential to limit risk and ensure profitable returns. Are you looking for an alternative to real estate or stock market investment? Investing in diamonds is both safe and profitable, provided you know how to choose the right diamond. We explain why investing in a certified, quality diamond is the key to success. Our customer service team is at your disposal free of charge for the valuation of your jewelry.
Choosing the right diamond for investment
Not all investment diamonds are equal. To succeed in diamond investment, you must choose the right diamond. First criterion: only buy certified diamonds, preferably by GIA, the world's leading gemological laboratory (or alternatively, by IGI or HRD). The GIA certificate attests to the diamond’s authenticity (increasing its value) and excludes conflict diamonds, while serving as the diamond’s identity card: it indicates its characteristics, notably the famous 4Cs. The 4Cs (carat weight, clarity, cut, and color) attest to the diamond's quality. The certificate will indicate them using a universal notation system developed by GIA. Other characteristics also appear on the certificate, such as symmetry, polish, or fluorescence of the diamond. A quality investment diamond must therefore meet the following characteristics:- A certification by GIA (preferably);
A weight between 0.5 and 2 carats; - A diamond color between D and F for the diamond to be colorless (beyond F, the diamond turns yellow);
- A “round brilliant” cut (fancy cuts have less value because they are less in demand), with a quality rated “Excellent” or “Very Good”;
- A clarity graded VVS2 to IF (meaning the diamond has few or no inclusions, and any inclusions are not visible to the naked eye);
- No or low fluorescence.
